He didn’t have to speak, he didn’t have to explain himself, just like he hadn’t pressured her to open up. It had just kind of happened. As he moved away she couldn’t deny she felt a little sting, but she had to ignore it right now. If he didn’t want her close, she needed to respect that. It didn’t change the fact that she felt guilty, that she felt like she was the cause of his distress. Maybe even that could be seen as selfish, like everything she did had an effect on him. He turned his back to her, and she felt a cold sensation move down her spine. He spoke and she just stood there, unable to understand or give comfort, because how could you comfort someone when you were hurting yourself? Moving over to him, she took his hand, giving it a squeeze, wanting to show that she was there, even though he had said he knew. Why was she craving him like this? Feeling the need to comfort and be close? She found it all so confusing. ”Take your time,” she said, furrowing her brows at her own voice. She wasn’t good at taking her time, she wanted to rush and feel good again, but being stuck in limbo like she was it was hard. She didn’t wish to see him sad, but she would understand if he needed time to himself. She reached carefully into his pocket, looking at him with a gaze that just begged him to trust her. She opened up his phone, pressing in her number and adding it to his contacts. ”If you need me,” she said, handing him back the phone.

Ash sent him a shy smile, but it wasn’t really genuine. She just didn’t know what to say, nodding at his words about getting to school. She couldn’t keep him, even though she wanted to. Some things you just had to do alone, and him figuring out his next move was maybe best done without her. She nodded at his promise about texting her, she would like that. It would at least make it a bit better, if not they would see each other at the movies. She was not one to get scared away from something she liked so easily, but what if that something was a person? She shot the thought out of her head, looking down shortly at his hand on her arm, feeling his thumb stroking her skin. ”Bye,” she said in a weak voice, still tired from just having woken up. As he had left she went to her room, collapsing on the bed and breathing into her pillow.
