Being on the nightshift was never really something that you wanted, sometimes you had nothing to do, like tonight it was like the whole city had decided to have medical issues. Ash had close to five a ‘clock told the staff that he needed to go with an ambulance to a on scene case. Of course, Nia had wanted to ask questions on why he needed to go with the paramedic as they would be perfectly capable to take care of the case until the subject was brought to the hospital. But she hadn’t even been here a full month and already knew that arguing or asking questions about how Ash did things, was not something you walked away alive from. So, she hadn’t asked, and she had continued her shift without any other urgencies only one small operation and then she could clock out of the day.

She walked by the waiting room for the trauma patients while fiddling with her id card and her home keys. She dropped the keys, because this was Nia anything else would be a miracle. As she got the keys and rose from her squatting position, she looked through the window and saw someone she hadn’t seen in such a long time. A small smile formed on her lips as she was momentarily overwhelmed by nostalgia, before she realized. He was sitting in the waiting room, her brows pressed towards each other. Then she walked over to the candy machine and pressed out the two kinds she had always insisted on them eating when together.
Then she slowly walked into the room and over to him, he was almost radiating the same energy he had had when seventeen. “Hey Tiny” she said with a subdued voice, as she sat down beside him a soft smile was on her lips, while her eyes was full of care and compassion.

It was so easy, for her at least, to see that he had been crying. Meaning that he was waiting in the room, because someone dear to him was admitted. Not that she was about to probe unless he felt like talking about it, he knew him well enough to know not to press the issue. Or she hoped she still knew him, what was it six years? She breathed in and gave a small nod “Yeah started working here this month” she said and gave him a big smile, trying to see if she could get him to think of anything else than what was occupying his mind, it was clear it was something that woke his darker self. Her hand found his and gave it a small squeeze. “here” she placed a small Nestlé Crunch on his lap with a small smile, her favorite candy bar. Then she waved another candy bar; Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; “Or would you rather have this one instead?” she asked. After all that had happened it was really great seeing him again, even as she wished it would be under other circumstances. How many times hadn’t she thought about finding him at his work and taking him out for dinner, just like the old days. But with everything that had happened, she just hadn’t found the time. Seeing him like this though? Made her rethink, she really should have sought him out.
